My history representing injured workers who have claims for compensation with the South Australian WorkCover Corporation

I left school at the age of 15 and went to work as a rouseabout in shearing sheds in outback Queensland. I went on to become a shearer for approximately 16 years. In this period I also worked in other industries as a builders labourer, local government, roadway construction, wine cellar, truck driver etc.

I have always been a trade unionist and I took out my first union ticket when I was 15 years old.
In 1975 I was elected as the secretary/treasurer of the AWU local committee in Broken Hill.
I then become a Union organiser with the AWU in 1978 and remained with them until April 1990.
I then worked for the Australian Railways Union and the Metals Union for some time.
In 1993 I become an Industrial/Workers Compensation Officer with the CFMEU (FF&P Division) where I am still currently employed on a full time basis as the Unions Workers Compensation Officer.

I have always been heavily involved in representing injured workers.
In 1987 I was appointed to the WorkCover Board as a worker representative and remained a member of the Board until June 1994.
I have also been a sitting member of the Workers Rehabilitation & Compensation Advisory committee for 8 years.
I will continue to pursue a fair and equitable Workers Compensation Scheme on behalf of injured workers.

This website has been set up by me so that I can impart (through my experiences and knowledge) information and advice to injured workers who reside in South Australia.

However please read carefully the disclaimer on this website.

There have been many Legislative changes that impact on injured workers in South Australia and there are more to come

Throughout this time there have been many legislative changes that have impacted on workers who are injured in the workplace.
The most recent changes to legislation were passed through Parliament in July 2008. These changes have far reaching consequences for all workers who are unfortunate enough to be injured at work in South Australia.

2008/2009 WorkCover Scheme Changes

My intention is to assist injured workers through the WorkCover maze after sustaining a workplace injury.
I will be proving useful resources and advice on what to expect after you report your workplace injury and make a claim for compensation.
I will also discuss the strategies that both employers and the insurer (EML - the insurance company that manages claims on behalf of the WorkCover Corporation in South Australia) are likely to use when managing your workers compensation claim.

My aim is to educate injured workers about their Rights (and not just their responsibilities)
